We explored how Saccharomyces boulardii might alleviate non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in rats suffering from fructose-induced liver damage. Thirty rats were divided into control, fatty liver, and treatment groups.
Our findings revealed that the rats receiving S. boulardii showed lower levels of harmful substances and improved liver health indicators compared to those without treatment. Notably, there was less fat buildup in their livers.
This suggests that S. boulardii could serve as a promising way to protect the liver from fatty damage linked to high fructose diets.

We investigated whether probiotics could positively influence patients with cirrhosis. In our randomized placebo-controlled trial involving 40 participants, we found that those taking probiotics experienced improvements in circulation and symptoms associated with cirrhosis.
Specifically, patients showed reduced cardiac output, increased vascular resistance, and better liver function. Those receiving probiotics also had fewer complications, such as ascites and hepatic encephalopathy.
Overall, our findings suggest that probiotics may offer a beneficial effect on the management of cirrhosis.

We explored how Saccharomyces boulardii can protect the liver from damage caused by Salmonella Enteritidis. In a mouse study, we saw that pretreating with S. boulardii drastically reduced the movement of harmful bacteria to the liver by 96%, preventing significant hepatic injury. S. boulardii also minimized inflammatory responses that would typically harm liver tissue after infection. These findings suggest that S. boulardii could be a valuable tool for guarding against liver injury due to Salmonella infections in future treatments.

We systematically reviewed studies on the effects of Saccharomyces boulardii (SB) in treating liver diseases. Our analysis included sixteen studies, comprising ten animal experiments and six randomized controlled trials. We found that SB effectively lowered the severity of cirrhosis symptoms and improved liver health metrics.
Additionally, SB significantly reduced inflammatory markers and gene expressions associated with liver injury in various models. It also showed benefits in gut health by altering microbiota composition and enhancing barrier function.
